Japan 9

ooooooooooookay... so i've been here for a week already. unfortunately, i haven't been going out much because i have to finish my homework and study for an exam on friday. but thats okay, i'll be here for over a month. this weekend was fun though. i met some really amazing people, like this guy tomo. woah! tomo is a cool dude, not to mention a sweetheart. super talented and outgoing. love him. that is someone i wish to hang out with again. i met him on couchsurfing.org and we just met up. he took me to this little itty bitty bar, and we talked. on saturday i went to a house party with di and his friends. it was cool, cause i got to experience a lot of things that i learned in school. i was really shy at first because everyone there was japanese. i was the only foreigner. all i could think was "oh shit, who am i going to talk to?". then my worse nightmare came true! we all kind of stood around and started introducing ourselves. "oh god, how was i going to introduce myself in japanese?!?!?!!!" i did it in english. haha. i had a personal translator. about 5 people spoke english or somewhat, and they were very eager to speak to me. it was cool.

di also took me to a traditional japanese bbq restaurant. god the food was delish! and you always drink beer with your dinner. awesome. you sit on the floor, you chill and talk. just have a good old time. good memories, for sure.

so here goes for the casualty of the week. i ran out of cash and i could not find a freaking atm with the mastercard logo. i walked everywhere, i even went downtown, but NOTHING. they were either visa only or completely in japanese. di must think i am an idiot because he took me to a 7/11 and that worked. not to mention i inserted the card backwards, so now he thinks i did it like that all along and that is why the card wouldnt work. I SWEAR I WAS DOING IT RIGHT!

anyway... today is a new day. i have cash. just need to finish my assignments and i am going to call this girl misa that my friend alex introduced me to. maybe we can hang out or something.

pictures coming soon...

fotos bienen pronto...

Japan 3

Day 2...

I didnt do much on day two. I had no idea where i am staying and Di hadnt given me directions on how to get back home. I walked around the hood and ate ramen noodles. miso ramen. It was so hard to order them. Di got home pretty late. He brough food and beer. He is so awesome. I wish i could offer him more. Anyway, he drew me a map of where we are and now i can go anywhere i want. We watched from dusk til dawn until we were falling asleep.

Day 3...

Once again woke up super early. Waited for Di to go to work and headed out for downtown tokyo. So... according to the map that Di drew, i was supposed to get to a station fairly quick from where we are. I think i walked for an hour if not more when i finally got to the station. I almost got on the wrong train but the police officers were nice and redirect me. Once i got in the train, i realized that somehow i had missed the original station and had actually walked further than i was supposed to. the long walk suddenly made sense. I got to shinjuku and started walking again. literally walking with no destination. i saw a lot of really cool government buildings, walked into a temple in the middle of business buildings, noticed that there are more public phones on the street than garbage cans, also noticed that people pick their nose in public, saw some of the most horrible teeth in pretty looking girls, entered host boy world. oh man, i really wished i had enough money to actually go inside one. i was approched by one of the dudes, it made me smile. i saw cool restaurants, bars, game centers, theaters, shopping malls (?), people, someone even took a picture of me. PEOPLE: somehow and i dont know how i was approached by this older man. he was talking to me and all i could say was 'wakarimasen' (i dont understand), but he didnt care, he just kept talking to me. i ended up telling him that i was a japanese language student, from america, hispanic, 27 years old, that i had more tattoos than he could see. the best part about it was being joined by this old man that looked like he had been pulled out of a manga. he was really old, with a few strands of grey hair on his head, missing teeth, really long grey hairs coming out of his nose. he wore a yukata, with geta sandals and a cane. and he never stopped smiling. i saw him again at the station and waved at him.

by the time i was ready to go home it was rush hour. i really wanted to avoid it, so i went to a bar and had a few beers while watching the soccer game: japan vs 'someone'. final scored: 1-1. in my opinion we lost because our goal was an autogoal made by the opponent team.

time to head home... everything seemed alright. downtown looked amazing with all its shiny lights, but i was so tired. i really just wanted to come back home. ill be here for 2 months, i can go back whenever i want.
got on the train, got off at the wrong station, my suica card didnt work. went to the 'koban' (police station) and eventually got to the right station, but then what? it wasnt the same station i used earlier in the day. it was actually the station i had missed before. i couldnt just follow the map Di had given me because somewhere it was obviously wrong. went to the koban again. all i really wanted to know was how to get to the main street and i would guide myself from there. i didnt want to ride the bus or a taxi because i want to make myself familiar with my surroundings. it was late, i guess they fell sorry for me. they gave me a ride home. i rode in a tokyo police car, awesome.

got home, made some food, passed out. today, my legs are sore from so much walking. it is also raining outside. i am going to stay in and study. i have an exam the fist day of class. i want to eat curry and rice. i really want Di to come home and hang out with me.

Dia 2...

Dia 3...

otra vez me levante super temprano.

Japan 1

so... i barely had any sleep bofore i got on the plane. actually i passed out for an hour watching a movie before i had to return it so netflix wouldn`t charge me. anyway, thanks to not sleeping i was able to have a rather comfortable 13 hour flight. it wasn`t so bad. i tried to steal someone`s shoe on accident. haha.

as soon as i got to the narita airport i realized that my suitcase was too big. way too big. i want to buy a new one and just give it to carla. its too big!!

sensee showed me how to get to tokyo. by the way sensee is amazing.

i got to tokyo and... i have no words for it.
i had to wait for Di to get off work so i decided to venture (not too far, i didn`t want to get lost and my suitcase was way too heavy). SO many shops! SO much food! I didn`t know what to do.
i was tired so i went back to the station and tried to call a friend. i turned around and there was Di. he said he just knew it was me. he said i looked different from everyone else. he also said i don`t look japanese. Wah!

Di`s place is pretty big, i like it. it took us like an hour to get here. oh, and he laughs at everything i say :)
we went out to dinner to a local restaurant, here they are called `shookudoo`. the food was amazing and so were the drinks. i think we drank a little too much. but who cares! i am in japan! i had 3 different kinds of `shochu`. the waitress thought my tattoos on my feet were `kawai desu nee`, in other words cute. Di had me order food in japanese. and after we were done, we talked to the waitress for a little bit. she told us her name, but i don`t remember. we stoped at the convinient store on our way back home. then i passed out.

now is day 2... i think i am a little bit jetlagged. i have all the windows open.
today i am staying in. maybe i`ll go out and get some food, but i don`t know where to go or how to get there so i am just going to tak it easy. hang on tight for an update tomorrow!
